WARDEN'S COURT. Friday, February 2.

(Before Warden H. A. Stratford.) William Robertson applied for a prospecting license five chains above the Taieri bridge at Outrarn. — The Taieri County Council objected. Application granted conditionally that the license does not confer any right to interfere with the public works for the protection of the river or damage any piiblic or private right on the banks of tho Taieri River. The Deep Stream Amalgamated Hydraulic Sluicing Company (for whom Mr Sinclair appeared) applied for an extended claim of five acres, part section 4, block VII, Lee Stream. — Granted. Henry Boult applied for a prospecting license of TOO acres on both sides of the Ta-ieri River near Outram, commencing about five chains down the stream from the bridge, and continuing one mile down stream. — Mr Stilling . supported the application. — Mr A. Chisholm (chairman of the Taieri County Council) opposed, raising, in addition to the general objection, the sjoecial objection that the application was for a portion of the river adjoining the protective embankment, and that interference with the bed of the river would endanger this embankment.— Mr Stilling submitted — firstly, that the objector did not know what work was to be undertaken, and therefore could not say that tliere would be any clanger; secondly, that if the special claim were granted, the holder took the risk of an. injunction. — His "Worship adjourned the matter to the 2nd March, the applicant in the meantime to produce a sketch map showing tha bearings of the embankment. The largest boiler ever carried on the Dim- 1 edin-Bluff lino passed through Milton on. Tuesday for the Orepuki shale works. The boiler weighed 18 tons, and was so large that it is said to have grazed the Caver«ham tunnel as it passed through. — Bruce Herald*
