Very Worthy of Pity.
A sturdy old Free State farmer has a shrewd I wife, who has long rendered his life anything j but a couch of roses. One day, not long ago, she, in a fit of temper, packed up her goods and departed, vowing never to come back. j Some of the neighbours who got to hear j about it came round in the evening to condole | with him. " Hans," remarked one of them, " I pity you." " My poy," replied ther- honest Dutchman, as he knocked the ashes out of his pipe, " she ! has shust come back."
