LAST CHANCE H.S.E. AND D. COMPANY.

TO THE EDITOH.

Sib, — I would like to know what this company has been doing, and what the dhectors intend to do. There is no word of a dredge yet, and the shares are now paid up to some 10s. I was induced to take shares on the good information set out and vouched for in the prospectus, coupled also with the fact of your travelling representative writing favourably as h? did of this venture (vide Daily Times of 4tii July last), which was in itself no small assurance to those who became shareholders.

I understood the claim would have been profit yielding from the start, and that regular monthly returns, with the assistance of monthly calls, would speedily furnish a dredge. With the exception of, I think, one return of gold some months ago I have seen no others reported, nor any information concerning the claim, other than that someone was sent to inspect the property, xhe newspaper report of which, to my thinking, was not very encouraging. No doubt the published statement of the company's affairs as at 31st December .(required by the Mining Act) will soon be forth.-" coming, which should afford some information., I notice that shares have recently changed hands at 2s discount. Any information as to the future outlook would be welcome. — I am,

[We are informed that it was the intention of the directors to carry out the original idea oi -working a large portion of the claim down, to the false bottom with an up-to-date dredge, but owing to the voluminous correspondence of adverse criticism on the merits of the claim the directors secured the services of Mr J. P, Smith, M.A.1.M.E., to report on the property. Mr Smith's report, which was a very favourable one, has already appeared in our columns. Under the recommendation of Mr Smith the directors decided to further prospect the property by boring in order to prove whether or joos srold exigijed in payable quantities btaeatZi

th? false bottom. Until this is definitely decided the proportions of the dredge cannot be fixed upon. The boring operations are still being carried on, and the property has been tested to a depth of 40ft. Gold has been obtained below the false bottom, but -full particulars are not yet to hand. The company have obtained 560z of gold by hydraulic sluicing up to date. -The first wash up was the property of the vendors, as per agreement filed &fc date of registration. — Ed.
