LYELL, January 26.
The following is the Alpine mine manager's report: — The No. 7 level has been re-driven in the f ootw'all for a further distance of 10ft, making a total distance of 78ft. The track which we were following has gone over the top of the" old timber, and we shall be unable to pick it up again until the end of the old level is reached in about a, week's time. The leading stope nbove this level has been taken off for a distance of 20ft. The reef is rather irregular, beins; from 2ft to 3ft wide, and of very fair quality. Stoping is still progressing above the north "extension of No. 11 level on a reef from 2ft to sft wide, and work is also being continued in the ptopes above the intermediate between No. 10 and 11 levels. The reef is small and hard. The winze in the north end of No. 11 level is now down a total depth of 66ft. The reef having narrowed down at the bottom, a crosscut is being put into the footwall. The quantity of stone sent to the battery is 140 tons.
