FIRE IS A COAL MINE. WESTPORT, January 29.

The old workings at the Cardiff coal mine at Seddonville are on fire. Little information concerning the five is available. Mr Dixon, manager for the Westport Coal Company at Granity, is superintending arrangements, and hopes to get the fire under in a few days. At present 16 men are engaged, but they are prevented approaching the scene of the fire through impure air, and fans will have to be used to enable them to make headway. Ifc is presumed that the fire was caused by spontaneous combustion.
