D.J.C. COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the D.J.C. Convrrr'*"-' tee held la&t Thursday was attended by Messrs S. Solomon (in the chair), Myers, Grindleyy Ponsonby, Carr, and Mills. An apology waa received from the president. A letter was received front 1 the OrepuVS Hack Racing Club stating that a protest had been lodged against the winner of one of tha events, on the ground that the rider did not hold a jockey's license. The rider in question, being the owner of the horse, and an amateur, lodged the fee for a licence with the secretary under protest, as he maintained that an owner 1 , could ride his own horse. The club asked for the D.J.C. 'a advice on this question. — Ifc was resolved that a reply be forwarded stating that as it appears from the correspondence that the rider in question was entitled to a gentleman rider's certificate, but did not hold the same at the time of riding, a substantial fine would meet the case, and that the stakes be awarded to the original winner. The T-Teddon Bush Sports Club wrote tliafc they had disqualified the jockey John Stanley for six month's, from January 5. for foul rid ,g at their meeting. — The disqualification was endorsed.
The Wiiirio Jockey Club wrote notifying that they had disqualified the jocLeys James Henry and Harry Townson for six months for foul riding in the Cobfp ■ tion .Handicap at their meeting on January j7. — Endorsed. The Secretary Otago Agricultural «ncl Pastoral Society wrote statir.g that they had decided to hold the winter <-bow during the race week in May. — Receiv-d with thanks.
A deputation consisting of the President, and Me.svs Mills and C'arr was appointed to wait upon the district traJiic manager and arrange for moire carriage ficconimotlation in. connection with the forthcoming Cup meeting in M;irch. C. Cochrane wrote arkine; to be allowed (a own and race a horse, and still letain Ms jooke3 r 's license. — Resolved to reply that undsr rule 142 the club have no power to grant the request.
il was resolved that the disqualifications h& removed from/ all person- r>nd owners taking part at a small sports mooting at Clifdeni on January 1, the programme not having been, submitted for approval in error.
The Albany street Schoo l Committee wrota slating t'lit they had art ! ed to hold the annual school picnic at Vvin.atui on February 28, and asking if the club would grant the us-e of the grounds. — Anplic-i'Jon granted.
Frank M'Gvath applied for a grant from the jockeys' fund on account of ar> accident at the Southland meeting, by which he had his collarbone broken. — The sum of £5 5s was voted.
