FATAL TRAP ACCIDENT. MARTON, January 15.
I A bad smash-up occurred on the Wa.igaehu side of the Turakina Hill at 8 o'clcclc last evening. A spring trap, containing Mr Moran, railway ganger, his married daughter (Mrs Tyson, of Napier), her two younger sisters (girls of 15 and 12), two younger children, and Mrs Ronald Cameron (of Fordell) was coming up the hill, when the horse took fright at an approaching , vehicle's lights, swerved round, and backed j the trap over a steep incline, turning over in its descent. Assistance was quickly prGcured from Wangaehu aud Turakina, and the injured conveyed to their home at the latter place. j Young Miss Moran, 15 years of age, had evidently received serious injuries, and ; though conscious, was suffering severe pain j through being carried on a roughly imi provised stretcher some three miles. She succumbed to her injuries at midnight before medical atistan.ee from Marton arrived, though the same would have been of no avail. None of the others were seriously Uinjured, although Mrs Tj-son got a very j severe shading. The horse had his fetlock broken, but the trap — a, heavy spring one — ' was uninjured. Major Ross., the corowt, is holding an inquest this afternoon.
