THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY.
The Theosophical Society's monthly lecture was delivered by Mr A. W. Maurais on Wednesday night. There was a- good attendance, about 25 being present. The subject was " Reincarnation," and the lecturer outlined the development of a soul through the various stages of its existence. He traced the descent of the spirit into matter, and showed the growth of the soul -through lower forms of life until it was fit-to takp on the human form. After that the development was more rapid*, and man was able to assist or retard his own evolution by his own efforts.. There was no limit to the height of greatness, of goodness that he might reach, and his, future was in his own hands. Mr Maurais, in conclusion, urged that the study of Oriental philosophy would repay any student more than any course of study he could undertakff. The lecture was attentively listened to, and at the close a number of questions asked.
