VOLUNTEERS.

The Dunedin Engineers held a commanding officer's inspection at the Garrison Hall on ' Wednesday evening. The company was afterwards exercised in the open air, particular btlentjon being given to fire control and discipline. It was announced that speciaJ classes would, be held for the instruction of those members who were desirous of competing for tne badges, for signalling, electricity, and field engineering work. The Engineers' have decided ta promote an entertainment for tne benefit of au old and highly-respected member of the corps, who is" now rendered unfit for work in consequence' of failing health. The services of a number of the leading vocalists have been promised, and' a programme of a high class and original nature is being prepared. Colonel Webb has granted his patronage, and given permission for volunters to attend in uniform. The entertainment will take place on the 9th. February. * The B Battery went into camp on Saturday at the Forbury lacecouise. The company rnusterad in the- afternoon at the Garrison Hall, and, with their guns, marched to the camping round. The rain prevented the parade, which was to have taken place, and also prervented the tents being pitched. Accordingly the uien were billeted in. the chambers underneath the people's stand, where they founcf. fairly comfortable quarters for the night. OnSunday morning a mounted parade was heldi and field movements practised. Immediately ' after dinner the tents were pitched, and the place assumed more of the appearance af a i military canip. The officers' in- charge are Captain Chalrrter and Lieutenants Barron,, Tapley, and Nicol. The order of the day during camp will be : — Keveille, 5.30 a.m. ; parade, 6- a.m. ; breakfast, 8 o'clock. The men arc then; dismissed to attend to their work. They rej assemble at 6 p.m., have tea. at 6.15 p.m., .parade at 7 p.rxi: ; and " lights out "is sonneted at 10.30 p.m; . ''
