WOOL SALES.

Donald Reid and- Co. report a,s follows: —We held our fir3t wool sale of the season at the Agricultural Hall, Cunedin, on Thursday, the 21st December, 1839, when there was a very full gathering of buyers in attendance. English, foreign, and colonial manufacturers, as well as the Mosgiel, Roslyn, Oainaru, and Bruce factories, -were all represented, there was also a fair gathering of wool growers, farmers, and other 3 who were interested in the proceedings. The recent showery weather having retarded shearing operations, only 4375 bales were catalogued, by the various brokers for this sale. The great bulk .of.the clips forward have opened out nice and clean this season, and the wool appears bright, well-grown, and sound in staple. For fine and half-bred merino and fine wools of all kinds there was very animated competition, the finer wools of this class established an advance of from 3Jd to 4d per lb on the prices of last year's opening sales. The coarser wools, including Leicester, Lincoln, Komney, and coarse crossbreds met rather a dragging sale, nevertheless even coarse wools, well got up, show an advance of from ljd to 2d on last year's opening salea. Clean light'merino'and halfbred pieces and locks evoked" very' spirited competition, and j realised very rull values. I Altogether prices made at these sales must i be considered very satisfactory, and should ' help to give courage to' our pastoral friends to 1 hold on to and increase their flocks, and at the j same time imorove the class of woo l.. We submitted a catalogue of 513 bales almost entirely made ap- of farmers' clips of greasy wools, our entire catalogue meeting very good competition. We subjoin list of wools sold, and prices realised. The following table shows the range of cur- | rent prices: —
