December 22. — We are' having a spell of very backward weather here at present. , Scarcely a day. passes without rain. This has greatly retarded turnip-sowing throughout the district, but those sown early aro coming away nicely. - Shearing has- begun on all sides. There has bee,i very little prbgross made, however, owing tcr the wet weather. i ■ School'. — Tlie school broke up on. "Wednesday for the summer, holidays. Prizes and certificates were awarded to the children deserving of tho honour. Mr Fraser (chairman of the school committee) and the 8.2 V. J. Aitken addie&sed the scholars, and the latter gcnetlenmn oflx-red a prize o! a'book each to the boy and giTl who bring th. best bouquet of wild flowers on the Friday after the re-ope.iir;g of the school.
