Tho competing problems in the tourney, together with such selected thiee-move problems as may appear during' the publication of the tourney problems, are alone submitted for solution. The continuous system, having failed io bring fonvaid a sufficient number of competitors, will bo discontinued, and a piizo of 10s 6d to the solver who obtains ths highest number of points is offered by the Daily Times and Witness Company, and a second prize of Conington's or Mason's (at the option of the winner) " Elementary Treatise on Chess " will be given by the choss editor to the solver who gains the next higho3t number of points. The conditions of^ the competition are: — Points — Each author's solution and every " cook " : two moves one point, three moves two points. A correct statement that a problem has no solution counts ab a solution. Criticis2!is by solvers are invited, and it is requested that solvers award marks to Eound problems from 0 up to 10. according to their estimate of the merits of the problem.
