The Ship Henbury. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — Re the ship Hcnbury. "We arrived at Port Chalmers in August, '59, not '57, a slight mistake on tho part of Fabian Bell in "The Toll of the Sea." Saturday night the drinking cCmmcrced. About 1 o'clock on Monday morning I was roused by a ciy of fire. I was locked up in the sail room by the steward, being nearly suffocated by smoke. I sang out, " Where is th door?" tore down part of it, rushed on deck, and knocked at the chief mate's cabin till he got, up. Hatches were battened down ; not a bucket to be found We landed on Monday morning at the Port jetty, hatless and shoeless. We borrowed hats and shoes, which I had to return. The Avondale arrived a week before us, after a passage of 132 days ; we were 122 days. The Alpine arrived a short time after tid. When I was last in Dunedin, I inquired about shipmates, but after many inquiries at the Witness office and at Mr J. Reid's, I could get no reply. — Yours, etc., W. H. WILKE9, Passenger Second Cabin. Post Office, Roxburgh, December 18. Lettera of naturalisation have been issued to Peter Barra and Leonore Barra, Waihola ; Charles Hansel, Dunedin ; and Christian Johnson, South Dunedin.
