In connection with the polling in the outlying portions of the Nelson Oity \ electorate, which includes Peloru3 Sound, it transpire 3 that the settlers were unaware of the dates fixed for the poll, and that the deputy returning officers had not received notice of their appointment, when a special steamer called iv the early morning with the ballot boxes and voting papers. Notices were j duly sent, but aa there is only communication once a fortnight, and the winds had been contrary, the notices had not been received. At one place the deputy returning officer lighted beacon fires, and many settlers proceeded by boat to the nost office, and were thus able to vote. The returns increased Mr Graham's majority to 572. and it would have been larger had all the settlers voted. MOTUEKA.
