SOUTHLAND LAND BOARD.
The meeting held on Friday, Bth December, was attended by Messrs D. Barron (chief commissioner), J. M'lntyre, A. Kinioss, and D. King. The Department intimated that land applied for by Robert Andersen in block IV, Winton Hundred, would probably be proclaimed for railway purposes. The Waikawa Dairy Factory Company stated that they only took seeurity~over cows supplied to settlers, not over other assets. M. J. Dwyer applied for a grazing right over portions of sections 2 and 3, Beaumont, between the road and river, for at least six months. — Refused, aa . the board could not temporarily lease land on settlement estates. Macalistcr Bros., on behalf of F. J. Dyer, asked that he be indemnified against loss sustained through the action of the Department regarding small grazing Run 38. — Mr W. Macalieter stated that Dyer considered he had a grievance, as he offered to agree to a reduction of the valuation of improvements by £50 if the run were grouped with small grazing Run 41, and opened as a pastoral run. The run was so opened and afterwards withdrawn : then opened as small grazing runs. He was not successful at the ballot, and was now a loser of the- 237 acres Br, and requested some compensation or indemnity for loss sustained by tho breach of agreement between him and tho board. — The commissioner stated that in tho present state of the case the board could not admit any loss by Dyer, as the small grazing run was now open to him or anyone else to take up ; burdened as it was with the full valuation of £237 8s. — Informed that the board did not consider Dyer had any claim against ! it, ami could not make any recommendation to tli- Minister. vr^l'dce County Council applied for section 2U, Wairio, ac a gravel reserve. — Government j to bo recommended to reserve it. j T.l>o commissioner and Mr Kinross reported I on thui inspection of section 249, Hokonui (,![ L.
