TO MARY.
Why are you grieving, sadly weeping? "lis nature! Poor human hearts — With grief and care they're nearly breaking When asked with their -babes to part. They have taken soon the homeward path; To you they were short time given! Innocent lambs, no fear of God's wrath, Of such is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Many a wcarisonu, aching pain
Your little ones would have shared ; Temptations sore and many a stain
Your God in His love hath spared. They are sleeping well the last long sleep,
Earth's troubles and trials o'er, Your God in His arms will safely keep Till you reach that distant shore.
They are waiting on that golden strand,
Ready, (when the time has come, To welcome you to the immortal land,
Your happy, eternal home. Sweet celestial land! how lovely there
In raiment pure white they shine: They're happier far beyond compare Than in world of sin and crime. Our father's gone, he has joined them there; They're rejoicing round God's throne; Our mother, too, has now passed through The gates of our heav'nly home. You know not the hour you may, be called To cross Death's gloomy river ; You will meet them there when life hath failed — You go to God, its Giver. — E. J. C. Ahaura, November 27.
