GAMES.
The following games were played in the match between H. Jacob and E. L. Benson, for the Stephens Cup and a stake of £20, last May. For score and ffotes we are indebted to the Leeds Mercury. Game 5870.—" Bristol (Irregular)."
(d) Now converted into the " Bristol." (c) Something new. Ro"bertson gives four alternatives here, all resulting in draws — viz., 20 16, 21 17, 27 23, and 26 22. (d) 2 7 looks preferable at this point. (c) Here 5 9 would have drawn, as follows : —
(f) If 10 15, 17 10, 35 19, 23 16, 6 15, 21 17, 12 19, 17 14, etc., W wins. ' (g) If 3"0 26, 9 13, 26 22, 8 12, 16 11, 10 15, 17 10, 15 19, 23 16, 6 15, etc., drawn. Game 5880.—" Dyke."
(a) Weak; 10 15 would have given Black a stiong game; for instance — 10 15, b-23 18 8 12* 18 11, 21 25, 30 21, 19 24, 28 19, 16 30, and Black has the beter game, although he is a piece down (b) 31 27, 6 9, 13 0, 2 9, 23 18, 8 11. 27 23, 9 13 18 14, 13 17, 22 13, 15 18, etc., drawu t . :
(a) Robertson gives 17 14 here, with a dra^ni result. (b) A peculiar and interesting finish to a well-contested and original game. . _ • \ ,/Vv'''Contributed by Pres^Qri/Ketchiun, Madison; to the Pittsburg ChronicletTeiegraph.'T.,^ " • - Game 5852.— " Single' Corner."* ■
P. TESCHELEIT, 1889. (a) 22 17 draws. The move in the text wa9 given as a loss by Sinclair, 1832.(d) Corrects Sinclair, who played 8 8, allowing "White "to draw, as shown by J. Mitchell in the Norwich Journal about ten years ago. It also corrects N.A.C.8., vol. 7, "game No. -13. • ' (c) Corrects • the above-mentioned NVA.C.B. game, note b, at the third move, where 3 8, 11 7, 2" 11', 27 24, etc., is given by W. Fleming, and White draws. Although unsound, this play is not original with Mr Fleming, as it was published in the Norwich Journal by T. J. Riley,
