LAND AND WATER.
In a- previous issue we reported that the salmon ova brought from San Francisco by the Moana. was found to have perjshed on the voyage, not one being landed alive. On making inquiry at the Union Company as to whether the mortality arose from defective arrangements on board, or through the packing, we are informed, that the package was too big to go into the freezer, and the shippers declined to split it up; that it was carried on deck by shippers' instructions, and they even declined to allow the packing to be removed ieo as to permit of fresh supplies of ice, stating that the ova was so> r packed that if kept in a cool place they would carry as they were. Every care was taken of the package, but apparently the shippers were^out in their calculations, as the ova' was, found to be dead on arrival, although their instructions were carried out to the letter.
