Why Egyptians Make You Dizzy.
Egyptian cigarettes are sometimes quite intoxicating. I have seen inveterate smokers of Virginias turn giddy after using two Egyptians. This is because the Egyptians are often drugged, either intentionally or accidentally. The latter occurs in this way. It is common in the East to follow up an opium crop with a crop of tobacco for the sake of the peculiar flavour fo produced. But ground on which the poppy is cultivated year after year becomes quite impregnated with opium, and this •iLjtanco is naturally drawn into tho tobacco '< if with the moisture from the ground. Once ■i it stays ; and thus the smoking of a con- ■ Vrable quantity of what is called Egyptian I tobacco is pretty much like smoking an bgyptiaa pips.
Enstern manufacturers sometimes, also, put tho drug Indian hemp in the tobacco for the sake of its intoxicating effects. Half the inhabitants of India and China, dose themselves with this drug, and its effects are said to be even more delightful than those of opium. But when you happen to get a cigarette heavily charged with it, its effects usually consist of a rush of blood to the head, confusion of mind, and headache.
