ROYAL ACADEMY AND ROYAL COLLEGE OF MUSIC EXAMINATIONS.

The following is the result of the local examination held by Mr Graham P. Moore at the University on Friday for the Associated Boards of the Royal Academy of Music, and the Royal College of Music, London.

Senior. — Emily M. Munro, May Chalrner, Gladys B. M. Hocken, J. H. Maxwell Moodie, E\elyn W. Penny.

Junior. — Ethel A. Smith, Susie Wilkie, Olive Herdman, Myra F. Harty, Mabel L. Munro, Sheila Howiey, Ethel Lorie, Gertrude Pitts, Ella Balmer, Cecilia A. Miles, Arthur Isaacs.

School Candidates. — Higher Division: Ida Lone, Edith Lorie, Edith Wakefield, Agnea Mill. Lower Division: Constance Lorie, Nina Ogilvie Grant Elementary Division : Katie Penny, May Dawson, Ettie Greenslade.

Eighteen local centre candidates were presented for the senior and junior. Of these five seniors passed, four of whom were pupils of Mrs Blandford and one of Mr Barth. There was one failure in this division. In the junior class seven of Mrs Blandford' s jmpils were successful, while two of Miss Miller's and two of Miss Yorston's also passed. One candidate failed. For the school examination there were 10 candidates. Five entered in the highest division, nnd four passed. In the lower division two entered, and in the elementary division three, all of whom passed. The result of the first exaxnination in Dunedin is distinctly satisfactory, and reflects great credit on the teachers, as the time for preparation has been short, and the candidates have had a difficulty in getting the music reqiiired. Messrs Bcgg and Co. have assisted in organising the examination, and in eiery way forwarding the introduction of the .n^w examining body, who have for their chief aim the elevation of music training at Home and in the colonies.

Miss Emily Marion Munro, aged 13, obtained the highest marks made by candidates who presented themselves in the practical examinations (senior grade). This young lady obtained a silver medal at the Juvenile Industrial examination four years ago for a- competition piano solo under 12. and last year obtained another

medal at tne Sunday Schools Exhibition for competition piano solo under 18. Her tuition was in the hands of Mr Albert Vallis until his departure for Europe early this year. Since then she has been a p\ipil of Mrs Blandford, L.R.A.M., who prepared Miss Munro for the present examination.
