DEFRAUDING BOOKMAKERS. LONDON. November 21.

George Bubear, ex-champion sculler, has been sentenced to three months' imprisonment for obtaining money from bookmakers I by fraud. When the case was before the Police Court evidence was given that a man named Barker had been in the habit of handing in bundles of telegrams just prior to the running of a race, making beta with, bookmakers. Meantime a confederate telephoned the names of the winning horses. ' Such telegrams as were not forwarded were got back, the winner's name was inserted, and the bookmakers, thus misled by the times on the messages, paid over tho money. Bubear was suspected of the conspiracy, as he made application for the moneys arising out of tho transactions.
