THE WELLINGTON MEETING.

Explosion is the be3t of the Cuirassiers, and a much better racehorse than his sire. His dam, Jadestone, daughter of Sword Dance and Onyx (Nordenfeldt's dam) never raced at all. I regarded Explosion, as a first-rate horse on the C.J.O. results, and now we have hint fully proving it by his racing at Wellington, where ho , gave chunks of weight- to everys thing, and ran as if in a class of his own. A . glance' at the following table of .recent winners of the principal race'at the 'Wellington Spring meeting will show that Explosion* performance is. quite out by itself. Here wo have .the list:

Explosion, it will bo observed, has the highest weight and has made the fastest time. It is only in late years, since Target won. that the race has been called the Wellington Handicap. In Armilla's -year it was the Exbition Handicap : prior to that the Hutt Park Spring Handicap. But the distance has remained the same — a mile and a-quarter. It will be observed by the report that on the second day Explosion gave 41b and a beating over the nine furlongs course, and that the time was lmin 56sec. Verily, this Explosion is a clipper ! Advance, Rosella, and First Blood continued the winning form they showed at Riccaxton. The only jarring not© of an otherwise pleasant meeting was the disqualification of Wedlock, apparently because- the stewards believe he did not try 1 to win the Second Welter. I must learn more about this matter before giving any opinion, on the subject.
