PUBLIC AND PRIVATE WEALTH OF THE COLONY.
A leaflet issued by tho Registrar-general shows that the estimated total public and private wealth of New Zealand up to the end of last year was £252,410,406. The private wealth, estimated from probate returns, was £201,154.323. Mr Yon Dadelszen's figures are as follows : — Private wealth (a3 estimated from the probate returns) .. .. £201,154,323 Public property— i.e., land and improvements not owned by individuals, exclusive of Government railways (figures supplied by the Valuer-general) : — Crown lancls £12,986,818 Local authorities' lancls 4,704,442 Educational lands .. : 2,960,438 Church and other lands .. 2,274,051 Government railways, open and under construction (figures from Public Works department) 16,762,455 Other public works — namely, telegraphs,- lighthouses, harbours, and water supply on goldfields 4,551,327 Total public property .. 44,248,561 Total wealth, excluding Native nds , , 245,402,884 JSative lands, with improvements (figures supplied by the Valuergeneral) • .. 7,007,522 Total wealth, public and private.. £252,410,406
