INVERCARGILL, September 28. At the Supreme Court, for a series i>f transactions in bicycles obtained on the hire system and soM at a profit, Duncan M'lntyre, a country youth, got six months, and for perjury in the same case in the lower court a similar term, the sentences to be concurrent. George Robin Colvin, aged 17, was found guilty of indecent assault on a female under the age of consent, and sentenced to six months' separate imprisonment. This concluded the criminal sittings. <
In the Divorce Court Mr Justice Denniston granted a decree nisi in re James Knight (petitioner) v. Emma Knight (respondent) and John Smith (co-respondent). The parlies were married in 1896, and after living in different parts of the district the wife came to Invercargil] on a visit. He followed, and, not finding her, made inquiries, which ended in his finding her in Dunedin, consorting with immoral women. Later on she returned to Invercargill, and lived with Smith, a bookmaker, for some months. The petitioner gob £30 costs against the co-respondent. Of the civil actions set down only one came to hearing— viz. , Sherriff (Southland) v. the Bank of New Zealand, a claim for £178 poundage fees, which an official failed to charge, and which he now sought to recover. The bank resists on the ground that Sherriff should have exacted the fees, and that if the amount was lost it was the Government officer's own fault. Mr Justice said there was an important question involved, and he would probably consult the other judges when at the Appeal Court. He ordered the matter to stand over in the meantime.
Some Chamber business to-morrow morning concludes the sessions.
WANGANUI, September 28. At the Supreme Court Tainui Kawena. was charged with the theft of £400, his grandmother's money. The ca&e was partially heard, and dismissed.
