LOWBURN.
September 4.— Mr Werner, secretary of the Confederated Miners' Association, has received a request from the Waikaka branch to assist in having the Waikaka proclaimed open for tailings, as a writ has been issued against M'Gill and party by a woolscourer named Wallis for fouling the stream. The secretary of the confederacy has sent circulars to the different branches to urge their respective members so as to bring pressure to bear on the Government to settle the matter quietly without unnecessary protraction and expense. A petition to this effect has beer> sent to Wellington, but several of the farmers have signed a counter petition. The Government has promised to issue the necessary notices under section 109 of the act, so there is every probability that a speedier settlement of the difficulty will ensue than was the case at Maerewhemia and Waipori.
