MID-WAIAU.
September 2. — Meetings of farmers from Clifden, Otahu, Bellmount, Eastern Bush, Merrivale, and Feldwick have been held at Eastern Bush, having for their object the taking of measures to improve the breed of draught horses. Mr James King was made chairman, Mr Darley secretary, .and Mr Scobie treasurer to the Waiau Draught Horse Association. A canvass was made of the districts, and 70 mares have been guaranteed. The terms fixed on are £1 on February next, and £2 when the mare proves in foal for each mare served. These terms, it was thought, would, induce a superior horse to travel the compact circuit embracing these districts. These have again been made into three subdivisions, each of which has to appoint a representative to see the horse and jointly make terms with the owner at the Invercargill parade. It was resolved that the services of the horse should be limited to the property of members, and that no reduction should be made from the above terms on any consideration.
