August 17." The Australians began a match at Cheltenham to-day against Gloucestershire. The weather is fine, the -wicket hard, and the attendance good. Hill, Johns, and M'Leod are standing out. With one wicket down for 15, Champain and Townsend got together and made a good stand. Jessop also played a fine innings, but the wickets fell Tapidly, and at the luncheon adjournment seven were down for 138. Board was the only other batsman who appeared at home to the Australian bowling. When stumps were drawn for the day the Australians had lost four wickets for 113 runs. The newspapers admit that the honoiu's of the test matches rest with the Australians, but contend that if the unfinished matches had been played out England would have scored a majority of wins.
