WAIWERA.
August U. — Mr Glover has retired from farming, and, in the meantime, left the district. On the eve of his departure last week many of his Kaihiku and Waiwera friends met at Mr Irwin's Temperance Hotel, where an excellent dinner was provided, with other elaborate arrangements for a jolly good time. The chief of the evening was given a hearty send off, a presentation of a gold albert being made to him. After the dinner many toasts were drunk, and a good deal of speechifying was done. Mr John Johnston presided, Mr Nicol being vice-chairman, and making the presentation. The proceedings were enlivened with songs, recitations, etc., by Messrs Main, Tiffe, and Blocklock. A good deal of merriment was caused by pure water taking the place of the usual coloured drinks.
