HINDON.
A' August 14. — On Friday, the 11th inst., a smart shock of earthquake was felt by several residents in this district. It happened about 10.40 p.m. School. — After six weeks' holidays the children have to attend school, and acquire more knowledge for their future benefit, but it is a difficult task to make them believe it. Weather. — After some very heavy frosts, the weather is getting milder, and more like spring. Several residents lost some of their potatoes by the frost, and in three houses the bread and eggs were frozen quite hard. Farmers have been unable to do much lately, but will mpke up for lost timo when the weather permits. Sheep and cattle are looking fairly well, but feed is rather poor, as is usual at this time of year, but still the ralsbits manage to increase. Eabbitskins having fetched a good price this winter, more persons have been eager to catch a few rabbits than formerly, but the rabbit 's getting more cunning, and their extermination will not happen yet awhile.
