A Nelson telegram says: — News from Collingwood states that the Golden Blocks (Taitapu) has crushed 102 tons of stone for a return of 408oz melted gold. The casual visitor to the valley of the Kakanui will be struck, says the North Otago Times, with the great array of pegs driven in by the dredging prospector. From somewhere up near Clifton Falls down to the neighbourhood of Mr GerumeH's crossing it is said the valley is pegged off. At all events there is a plentiful supply of timber all along the river banks, and the enthusiastic sportsman who seeks to track the savage rabbit to his lair runs more than ordinary risk of tumbling over these obstacles to Tapid locomotion. The mouth of the river is also pegged off, and the interval between the two places will thus gffoTd a chance to the novitiate in "pegging out," or "pegging off," to leave his mark on the surface of the country in the shape of pegs and infantile trenches. But he will have to expedite his movements, for we observe that the pegs which were driven in at the Harbour Board quarry are disappearing, and will probably be used for the purpose of planting elsewhere. It is understood that a forlorn individual who was travelling out Enfield way the othei night with two sovereigns in his pocket was pegged off by a syndicate as Fomething worth prospecting, but this mny be a yarn. The Miller's Flat correspondent of the Alexandra Herald writes: — The material for the Golden Run Company's dredge is coming to hand very freely, and before long the builders will be at work. Several loads of heavy timber have passed h erefor the Gold Queen Company's dredge, the carting being in the hands of the same contractors as for the Goldevi Run Company. An Auckland telegram states that the Irene tributers crushed 235 tons for gold valued at £297.
