THE POLLARD OPERA SEASON.
This popular combination concluded a most successful season in Christchurch on Monday. Timaxu will be visited to-night, and Oamaru to-morrow night, '" La Poupee " being the attraction in each place. The company will arrive here on Thursday, and will inaugurate a three -weeks', season on Friday. In opening with "La Poupee" Mr Pollard shows good judgment, as, though it is entirely new here, lor months past we have heard nothing 'but the most glowing accounts regarding it. "La Poupee" is by Audran, the composer of La Mascotte," " Olivette," and other popular operas, and is generally acknowledged as being the most melodious of all this prolific composer's worka. The libretto is exceptionally bright and clever, while the plot is recognised l>y most critics as being the quaintest ' and most original ever conceived by any author for this class of piece.
