THE DREDGING BOOM. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — In your icsue of the 7th inst., under the above heading, a letter appeared signed " Dredger," assuring the investing public that all the dredging claims between Clyde and Alexandra are wild cats and unworkable by the present system of dredging. Now, " Dredger," I would refer you to the weekly leturns of the dredges between Clyde and Alexandra, and I would also refer you to any or all of the mining engineers for an opinioa as to v.hether the bank claims can be successfully dredged or not. If the mining engineers aSrm that the bank claims can be successfully dredged, then I tiust " Dredger " will not be angry if the investing public accept expert evidence in preference to his. I am afraid that, instead of being a public benefactor, " Dredger " is an individual who endeavoured in vain to get a slice for nothing off tho3e wild cats he disclaims ; or he is a man whose knowledge of dredging is scarcely sufficient to enable him to distinguish a gold dredge from a mouse trap. — I am, etc., Alexandra, August 10. M. M'Allen.
