Notes from Lyell.
(From Our, Own Correspondent.) LYELL, August 11. Alpine Mine. — The following is the mine manager's report: — Two raen hpve been engaged during the week in No. 8 level, and the drive has been cleared out and driven into the footwall for a distance of 6ft, but we are not yet in far enough to pick up the stone showing farther back in the level. Stoping has been steadily carried on at the back of No. 10 level. The reef * aries from 3ft to 4ft in width. Stopes have also been opened out in No. 11 level, and about 50ft farther to the noith the reef is from 3ft to 7ft wide, and a little gold can be seen in the stone, V.mt very little work has as yet been done here. Stoping has been continued at the back of No. 11 level. In the third stope, which has just been opened out, the reef is considerably broken. The two lower stopes are being carried only to the north uprise, where the stone is clean and solid. The north extension of No. 11 level has been driven ahead for a further distance of Sft. The track is abotit 3ft wide, and on each wall a smaller leader, carrying good gold, is lying. The quantity of stone sent to the battery is 240 tons, and the scraping of top plates yielded 2670z amalgam from 440 tons of stone.
