OBITUARY.
The many friends of Mr Alexander Robert Livingston, well known as a manufacturing stationer, will regret to learn of his somewhat sudden death, which took place on the morning of the 2nd. at the age of 63. He was born at Culross, Perthshire, Scotland, and made his way to Victoria in 1855. He came to Dunedin in the following year. ' In 1856 his father came to the colony, having been specially engaged as rector for the proposed High School. Mr Livingston engaged his son as his assistant, but he gave up the position before long to enter into business on his own account as stationer, a business he carried on up to the time of his death. In 1862 he married Miss Annie Burns, daughter of the late Rev. Dr Burns, who, with four daughters, survives him. Mr Livingston took an interest in public affairs, and in 1871 he was elected a member of the City Council, but was defeated at the election in the following year, and did not come forward again. Of a quiet and rather reserved disposition, the deceased gentleman was greatly esteemed by those who knew him for his kindly and upright qualities.
