SERIOUS ILLNESS OF THE AGENT-GENERAL.

SUFFERING FROM DIPHTHERIA. (Fbom Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, August 4. I understand a cablegram was to-day received by the Government announcing that the Hon. W. P. Reeves, Agent-general for •New Zealand, is seriously ill with diphtheria.-* The latest bulletin regarding his condition was, however, more encouraging, and it is hoped that he is now out of all danger. Telegraphic advice regarding his condition was forwarded to his mother in Christchurch last evening.

The workmen on the Enterprise Company's 'dredge, Alexandra, made a rather gruesome find, th« buckets bringing up the upper part led a hum*n ekull. The pkull appears to be £hat of a full-grown male European, and has Evidently been (submerged for a great number »f years —probably since the early days of the .goldfield*.
