REEFTON, August 5. Latest quotations are: — Alpine Extended, 6s 9d to 7s 3d ; Big River, 11s to 12s ; Cumberland Extended, Is to Is 3d ; Keep-it-dark, 24s to 255 ; Progress Mines (paid up), 30s to 325; Welcome (paid up), 2s 3d to 2s 9d; Croesus (Paparoa), 2s 9d to 3s; Buller Dredge, 17s to 18s; Consolidated dredge, 10s 6d to 11s 6d; Grey River dredge (vendors), 18s fid to 19s 6d; do (contrib.), 6s 6d to 7s; Buller Junction Dredging Company (vendors), 4s to ss; do (contrib.), 3b 3d to 3s Gd; Reefton Electric Light, Is 6d to Is 9d ; Grey Ga-s Company, IGGs to 170 a; Hokitika G as Company, 103s to 104s/ I have been informed that operations will be resumed at the Inkerman mine during the week. This intelligence will be received with gratification throughout the district. Returns: — Big River, 4430z amalgam, which produced 1650z 18dwt retorted gold from 145 tons ; Alpine, 3670z retorted gold from 960 tons. Big River. — The Mine Manager reports : Since last report we have timbered the lower intermediate, and started to rise on the stone. The stopes under No. 5 remain much the same in ' size, but the quality is a little better. Wo are still driving No. 5 level on the track of the reef. I The rise over this level is still on broken quartz. The contractors have driven No. 2 level 12ft for the week. The ground has been hard, but is now improving. Tho directors have declared a dividend of 9d.
