Notes from Tnancka. (From Our Wethirstoxes Corrssponb-bnt.) August 7. — The dredging boom has now extended to Queensland. Hi CD. Pop* read a, lakU*

resident of Brisbane, asking the name ofj.jthe | to me last week which he had received ffoin a firm in Melbourne who gave him the plans of the suction pump, to follow after buckets, which I mentioned some time ago. Mr M'Keich told me that he has been trying to get a manager to take charge of the Bellareef, Waipori, and probably Mr S. Gare, jun., will accept the appointment. Mr S. Gare is one of the origiual shareholders. He and an- j other man shirked the battery from Waitahuna and erected it on its present site without the aid of any mechanical engineer. He can also do blacksmith work; and he knows the reef thoroughly. The Klondyke dredge had a bad break down on about the 25th ult., and it took them all the week to make the necessary repairs. It appeers that a nut or bolt broke, and put the rest of the machinery out of order. They commenced dredging again last Monday. Mr Adams is going to look after the dredge, and be his own manager. The Golden Rise did not lose a single hour during all the bad weather and keen frost we had. People were sorry for the men that were at the nozzle in the night time, for it must have been cold work. Where there was a leakage from the pipes was a mass of ice. I be- | lieve the men pet 7s 6d a day, being the highest in any of the claims. I have been told of one i claim in whioh the remuneration is only from 25s to 30s a week to some of the men. That's low enough, anyhow.
