Lay up for self, in the words of HolyWri^ Treasure in heaven, With holy leaven ; Lay up foi self — many interpret it — ' ' Treasure .on earth, With all your worth ; — Methinks " Look after self " is the gist of it* EXAMPLES. The discontented, who, ever sighing, # For more and more, : Say :. " If we're poor, .• We've got a mansion in the sky," and* cryingj. Condemn the now And ourse their woe — — Because enough is far from satisfying! Many will sour themselves, and others too. With Sunday tears! And week despairs — " Dead to the world, its idle pomp and show^ We seek another clime, Beyond' the bounds of Time." And yet they rake and save earth's £'b (in ihm noo). For self down here and self up there, Christians are sweating; And all they're getting Is food and a bed — a, few feathers to wear. On a day set aside For devotion, and pride — To walk together o'er the aisle and stair T Fair Charity is ravished by their greed— And if not now, The donor's know Of great rewards for little deeds — their creedj Allows upon a. loan Interest upon its own — 1 " Help others and you help yourselves." H& deed! Hotels and churches grow apace, because The one blasts lives, Whilst the other forgives; So one supports the other, since the laws License the traffic In wine-blood catholic! We know, 'tis for gold they both open |he£K ■ doors. Two faces 'neath one hat are needful now To human kind If they've a mind - . To make a £ or two and save a sou . - For a rainy day! One face won't pay, But a pittance reward for honesty! ' The clergy all appreciate the " doubles '*■ When they may choose . They seldom refuse To obey " a call " to where the salary's double. Anxious souls with money, Milk, ay! cream and honey 1 Fear (the "rich," " camel' s-eye-needle*" trouble). But the parson paves the way, And makes it pay!
