An impromptu ice carnival wa3 held on the domain reservoirs at Ashburton on Wednesday night (says the Ashburton Mail). A hard frost set in before sundown, and made the ice very firm. About 9 o'clock the local band went to the domain and played some excellent music. At this time there musfc • have been fully 150 persons skating, some of whom valsed very gracefully to the music. . The band continued to play selections up till 11 o'clock, but it was past midnight before; the last of the skaters had lelired.
