j The meeting held on Friday, July 28, was attended by the Chief Commissioner (Mr Barron)* and Messrs J. M ln tyre, D. King," A. 'Kinross, and A. Baldey. It was decided to recommend the Government to grant M'Callum and Co. 12 months'* 'extension of time in which to erect a sawmill on area No. 302, Longwood. A request to withdraw section 20, block VII, Nokqmai, from sale was, .held over. Thos. Cournane's offer of 6d per acre for. grazing right ' over" sections 12, 13, and "14-, Beaumont, was 1 declined. It was ordered that sections 8 and 9, Oraka, be offered at the first auction 6ale. [ The Commissioner and Mr Baldey were ! authorised to report on the advisableness of granting residence sites in and neaj; Waikaka township. It was resolved that the lease of the Swit- • zers commonage be submitted to auction, co that the term would expire on the same date as that of the adjoining run ; upset rental Id per acre; also to recommend the Government to withdraw section 9, block I, Lilburn, from application. ' Massey and Co.'s offer of £12 for fheYlgnt to cut the remaining timber from- section 51y • blook V, Longwood, was declined ; valuaiion for improvements on the sections to be reduced. The Department haying notified that section 6, block VII, Waikawa, had been withdrawn from selection, it waa left for the Commissioner to fix a price and open the section ! for seleotion. j The Crown solicitor's opinion on the applii cation to transfer timber from -Crown lessees in New River Hundred to W. T. Boyd and Co. was that the clause re deposit of sawdust be qualified, and the Commissioner's action in signing the transfers, subject to the provisions of the Land Act being complied with, was confirmed, the clause objected to having been deleted. In connection with a request that the price ! of section 9, block XII, Oteramika, be reduced, Messrs Baldey and King were appointed to inspect and value this and other sections in the vicinity. , Stewart Island County Council reported indiscr,iminate cutting of firewood, and it was resolved to request the Government to expedite Mr Traill's appointment as ranger. Applications for land were granted as follows:—Thos. E. Blondell, section 315, Forest Hill; Chas. Robertson, part section 155, • blook I, Paterson ; Horora Creed, section 12, . blook XXIX, Wairaki. Transfers sanctioned : Agnes D. Mackay to Wm. MacJcay, : •section 13, block 1 Woodfield; John Ross to ] John Goaley, section 91, block XX, Aokers 1 ; v Daniel O'Kane to Patrick Fahey, seotion 12, block Yin, Waiau. Andrew. Salton, called on to show cause ' for non-residence on seotions in. blocks X and XI, stated that his brother was residing continuously and he part of the time on the sections. He applied for a transfer to his brother, or that he should be recognised as a partner. — To make a definite application. The Southland County Goiuioil's proposed expenditure of "thirds" and "fourth?
