MAUNGATUA.

July 24. — A very pleasant evening was spent in Maungatua Church on the 16th, under the auspices of the Christian Endeavour Society, when a tea meeting was hold for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr Crawford, who leaves for the Foreign Mission fields. There was not a large attendance, owing to the inclemency of the weather. After ample justice had been done to the good things provided for the occasion, the meeting was addressed by Messrs Paterson and Crawford, who gave those present some interesting details regarding mission work. Great credit is due to the ladies who presided on the occasion, and wfeo also provided the refreshments — viz., Miss Allan, Miss.es E. and J. Kempshell, and Misses Cameron and Dippie. A very enjoyable evening was spent, and the meeting was brought to a close by the singing of the hymn " God be with you till we meet ngain," and also some hearty hand-shaking and ■wishing Mi Crawford God speed in his new sphere of action. I understand that the Outram and Maungatua societies intend at an early date presenting Mr Crawford with a substantial token of their esteem on the occasion of his leaving. Bazaar. — A bazaar in aid of funds for the purchase of a harmonium for the Berwick School was held in the Berwick Public Hall on the evenings of the 21st and 22nd. A large number of articles were ou view for sale, several of which had been contributed by friends in various parts of Otago.. and even as far as Christchurch and Napier, the rest being contributed by residents of Berwick and neighbouring districts. In spite of the cold weather experienced on both evenings, the affair was . well attended, and was financially a success. The bazaar was opened with a lew remarks from Mr Wm. Munro, and proceedings were enlivened on both evenings by a number of pianoforte solos and duets, as well as songs rendered by Mis 3 Ferguson, Miss Henry. Mr Mirams. and others ; also piano and violin duets from Miss Ferguson and Mr A. M'Diarmid and Mr Mirams and Mr M'Diarmid. Great credit Is due to the teacher, Mr Ferguson, and also 1o Mrs and Miss Ferguson, as well as to the nembers of School Committee and other friends jy means of whose exertions the affair proved a juccess.
