THE CROMWELL CLUB.

Mr D. A. Jolly presided at the annual meeting of the Cromwell Jockey Club. The financial statement showed a deficit from last year's proceedings of £34 19s. A vote of thanks was unanimously passed to the officers for the past year, and a special vote of thanks was recorded to the treasurer, Mr J. W. Perriam, inasmuch as that for the first time in the history of the club 'every shilling of the nominations and acceptances of the club had been received, and the whole of the treasurer's duties had been carried out most satisfactorily. The following gentlemen were elected as members — Messrß A. Harris, J. M'Loughlin, W. Pierce, R. Craig, and W. J. Williams. The chairman explained that with regard to the separate interests of the racecourse trustees and the club an arangement had been come to by which the trustees agreed to forego receipt of the gate money in consideration of the club assuming their overdraft liability of some £30 until such timi as the club was -again in a good financial position, this arrangement to be subject to the agreement of all parties concerned. The arangement was considered satisfactory by the club. Jn a discussion which ensued it Avas considered by members that the prospects of the club for the coming year looked much better than they had done for some years back, as, with the growing population of the place, the membership was likely, in fact certain, to be largely added to. The president, treasurer, and Mr C. Holden were appointed a sub-committee to provide a guarantee fund for the forthcoming meeting, and to consult as to any other means of increasing the revenue. The meeting adjourned till Thursday, the 27th inst.
