SALE OF DRAUGHT STOCK.
The North Otago Times says: — Messrs Fleming and Hedley report having effected the sale of two pedigree draught entires to Mr David Ross, of Redcliff, on account of Mr T. Mee. Mr Boss, we understand, intends to take the two horses to Melbourne.
The first of the two horses referred to is the Clydesdale colt Fleming's Fancy, rising three yearß, by Lord Lyon, by Lord Salisbury (imported from Scotland, out of the famous mare Myrtle, by Prince of Wales (imp.). The dam of this colt is Queen, by Time o' Day, grand-dam "by Vanquisher (imported from Scotland by the late David Nesbitt), great grand-dam imported from Tasmania, by Lincolnshire Hero. Queen hsia taken first aud second prizes at Oamaru against the pick of the colonyj and was sold for lOOgs when nine years old. Fleming's Fancy is a colfc of great strength ,and quality, with a set of splendid legs — firm, wiry, and strong. He is not at all in show condition, but it is asserted that in tip-top condition he will be a hard nut to crack. The colt has levar been housed or fed properly, and will assuredly thrive in good hands, lie is just a fir'jt-class colt, and there are few to beat him in New Zealand when once he gets into form.
Renown, the second horse referred to, is a Clydesdale stallion, rising four years. He is a rich bay with very heavy bone and stout muscle, and is well-haired. He stands close on 17hds, and although not in anything like condition, his neck is finely arched. Hia sire is the celebrated champion horse Lord Lyon, by Lord Salisbury (imp.). Lord Lyon took 12 firsts, and was 12 times champion. Lord Salisbury was 'never beaten in Scotland or New Zealand. The dam of Lord Lyon -was the famous mare Myrtle, by Prince of Wales (imported from Scotland), g-sire Drew's Prince of Wales. Renown's dam was Flora, by Time o' Day, by Vanquisher, imported to Victoria by the late David Nesbitt. His g-dam was by Renfrew Jock (imported from Victoria). His g g-dam was by Champion (imported from Scotland).
In addition to these, two other horses will go to Melbourne at the same time from this district. These are: Lord Kitchener, a bay colt, rising three years, by Cedric the Saxon out of Madame I, and Prince William, a dark brown colt, rising three years, by Hard Times out of Flora. These animals will worthily sustain tho reputation the district has won for breeding high-class pedigree draught stock.
Two young men named Ashworth and Cobby were tried at the quarter sessions in Sydney on a charge of having counterfeit coins in their possession, with intent to utter them. They were found guilty, and were sentenced, the former to three years' penal servitude, and the latter to two years' hard labour*
