OTAGO RUGBY UNION.

The weekly meeting of the committee of the Otago Rugby Union, held on Monday, was attended by Messrs Gallaway (president), Hunter, Morris, Campbell, Duncan, Harris, Payne, Strong, Young, and Hutchison. The Fubcommittee appointed at the previous meeting to arrange a programme of interprovincial matches reported that the Auckland Union had intimated that its team's visit would poseibly be made about the end^ of , August, and that the Canterbury Union "advised that its team would possibly visit Dunedin early in September. A telegram was read from the Taranaki Rugby Union inquiring if the 12th August would be a suitable date for a match between Taranaki and Otago. It was agreed to reply to the Taranaki Union that Olago would play on the 12th if that was the only date on which Taranaki could play, but that the 19th "August would be preferable. The arrangements for the next few weeks were made as follows: — Trial matches on July 22 and 29 ; Wellington v. Otago, on August 2 ; final match for the Senior Flag (Kaikorai v. Alhumbra), on August 5. Attention having been drawn to the statement that there was a likelihood of the Kaikorai Club playing at Chrislehurch, the secretary was instructed to inform the Kaikorai Club of the union's arrangements, and to intimate that if its members visited Christchurch during the progress of the trial matches they would do so at the risk of being omitted from the representative team. The committee took up consideration of the case of J. Williams (Dunedin) • and H. Smith (Zingari-Riehmond), who had been reported by the referee (Mr J. West) for misconduct in the Benior match Dunedin v. Zingari-Richmond on the Bth July, and after having heard statements by the referee, Williams, and a representative of Smith (who was unable to be present), and by several witnesses, it was resolved that Williams be suspended for the balance of the season, and that Smith be cautioned.
