CANTERBURY.
At the S.M. Court on the 11th W. F. Cederwall (shops' manager), Herbert Barrs, and William Searle (assistants), employed by the Christchurch Meat Company, were fined 5s each and costs for obstructing Mr Jarman, inspector of the City Council, when he tried to seize some meat which he considered unsound from their shop. The Meat Company has now issued writs against Jarman to recover £750 damages for alleged injury to its credit and reputation, caused by Jarman's action, and a
subsequent statement he is alleged to have made.
At the inquest held on the body of John Dilloway a verdict that deceased shot himself with a pistol whilst temporarily insane was returned.
The Canterbury section of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association on Monday passed a resolution urging action to be taken for the prevention of tuberculosis.
During the past year the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association paid away £18,312 in salaries and wages. The sura of £15,349 is available for distribution among shareholders. This is the largest amount that the association have yet had to dispose* x>f in the way of dividend and- bonus.
