DAIRYMEN'S ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting of the Dunedin and Suburban Dairymen's Association was held on Saturday morning in the Agricultural Hall Buildings. The President (Mr J. Campbell) occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of members.
The following report was presented to the meeting by the retiring committee : — ,
The committee have great pleasure in presenting their second annual report to the members of the D. and S. D. Association. During the past year great interest has been taken in the affairs of the association by all the members, and this interest has helped the committee to a great extent in their 'work. A great amount of useful work has ,been done; and some very much-needed, reforms have been brought about through the actions of the association. You arc all aware of the inspection made by the city inspector of nuisances to see that carts were not carrying refuse, etc., from the town, and also of the inspection of dairies, cattle, and utensils made by Mr Cunningham, V.S. Mr Cunningham was appointed inspector by the City Council, with a guarantee from some of the suburban 'councils towards jiaying part of ,the cost of the inspection. Your committee feel pleased to know that these inspections were the result of their labour, but are of opinion that the same thorough inspection should be made oftener, say, every quarter. Your committee hope that should the Government take up the inspection, etc., of dairies, etc., the whole question will be most carefully gone into. Committee meetings during the year have all been well attended, and although general meetings have been fairly well attended, there is room for improvement. As the committee report quarterly to the general meetings there is always plenty of matter for interesting discussion, and the committee hope that during the incoming year large attendances will be the rule. During the year rule 3 of the agreement signed by retailers was rescinded. During the summer months the wholesale price of milk was reduced, so that members might not run any risk of losing customers through non-members cutting prices owing to the plentiful supply of milk. It is expected that it will not be necessary to take any ••similar action this year. Owing to the action of the Lanks in charging £1 ls per annum as a fee for current accounts, the committee decided to withdraw their account from the Bank of New South Wales. Mr Mime resigned, the treasurers.hip during the year, and Mr J. Campbell was appointed in his. place.
The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, congratulated the association upon tke result of their last year's work, and dwelt npon the excellent work done by the inspector, r
Mr \y. B. Anderson seconded the motion, and said the association were lucky in having such an able and energetic president as Mr Campbell. The motion, on being put, was carried unanimously.
The election of officers resulted as follows: — President, Mr J. Campbell (reelected) ; vice - president, Mr Duncan M'Gregor; secretary, Mr R. Milne (reelected) ; treasurer, Mr J. Campbell ; auditor, Mr W. J. Bolt; committee — Messrs Milne, Clarke, Bolt, Anderson, Mowat, Lewis, and Aaskoy.
