BRUCE LICE SING COMMITTEE.
The annual licensing, meeting of the Bruoa Licensing Committee was held in the Courthouse, Milton, v on Friday. Present — Messrs 1\ Wain (acting-chairmen), J. Crane, J. Ci.rißtio, J. C. Anderson, and R. Murray. The following applications for transfers were granted : —James Thomas- to Thomas Broderick, Havelock Hotel, Waitah'una; ' Helen Oorson to George Rottenberry, Stirling Hotel, Stirling; Mary Wain to Andrew - Young, accommodation license, Victoria Hotel, Glenore.
Publicans' licenses were granted to Thomas i Broderick, Havelook Hotel, "VVaifcahuna, ;.• George Rottenberry, Stirling Hotel, Stirling ; r Tliomas James Grant. Milton Hotels Milton; Charles M'Veigh, Club Hotel, Kaitangata ;• arid an accommodation license was granted to Andrew Young for the "Victoria Hotel, , Glenore. ' . I Renewals of publicans' licenses, -were granted as under :— Griffith Roberts," Royal Hotel ; Amos.' M'Kegg,- White" House- Hotel, Henley ; Frederick Bastings,- WJiite- Horse Hotel, Milton.; John M'Corley, Bridge^Hotel, * Kaitangata ; Archibald Paterson. Lake Hotel; Waihela; Hugh George Coombe* Commercial Hotel, Milton; George Oudaille, Bridge Hotel, Waitahuna. It waa. t decided to^ request severaL of the licensees to provide proper fire escapes. *
Wellington, Kan., built a new gaol, last year, and the authorities determined to name it after the first prisoner who might be confined in it. This prisoner proved to be a woman, Mrs Horton, and the institution was promptly named " Horton Gaol." Now it lias been proved that the woman was innocent, and she proposes to sue the Wellington authorities for damages. '
The Wyndham Herald says : "Mr and Mrs Robert^ Cuthbert celebrated their golden wedding in the presence of about 100 guests on Thursday. . The Rev. Mr Davidson, o£ •Mataura r was the officiating minister. Three friends were present who had witnessed the marriage 50 years ago. The"*old couple were presented with two purses of sovereigns — one from the Matfonic fraternity and the othec from relatives and friends. The rejoicings ended with a dance in the evening. Mr Cuthbert favoured with a well-sung song.
