NEW ZEALAND RUGBY UNION.
WELLINGTON, May 30.
At a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union this evening the proposal to assist in forming an Australasian Union was lost by 21 to 6. It is believed that some of Hie unions voted against the proposal, fearing that its adoption would mean disafnliation with the English Union, but this is not in-
tended.
A motion that the proposal to submit to the English Union the proposed alteration to the laws of the game be rescinded was carried by 13 to 7. It was decided to hold a special meeting to consider the alterations seriatim.
Mr Marter staled the ief>ult of an interview with Mr Rand, secretary of tho New South Wales Union, with reference to tho Englishmen, and it was blrongly urged that every effort be made to got llic Englishmen to visit the colony. It was decided to a&k the unions in the four centres what they are prepared to guarantee for a match played on their o»ui ground. When o, reply is received an otter will be made to New South Wales, and probably also direct to the English team.
