INVERCARGILL, June 7. Wheat. — Nothing changing hands, the mills being full. Quotations are only nominal at about 2s for milling samples, fowl wheat la 6d.

Oats. — The rise reported last week has not been maintained, and to-day's values are from Is 2d to Is 2£.d at country sidings. Growers are still holding off, and are not off ei ing freely. Reports from Australia state that maize has suffered a decline, and it looks as if values for oats here will have to recede further. Some of the late harvested lots are being offered, and it is difficult to quit them "at any price. As low as 9d per bushel has been paid for discoloured oats.

Barley. — No change and no dealings of any consequence have taken place. Prices nominal at 2s to 2s 3d.

Chaff. — Prime quality £1 17s 6d to £2 in Invercargill, inferior alid discoloured 35s to 30s.

Potatoes. — Supplies full, and no alteration in price — £2 per ton at Invercargill. Hyegrass. — A few lots changing hands at Is 2d to Is 4d for fair quality, prime at Is 6d on trucks

Pollaid £3 10s

Flour £7. Oatmeal £7 10s, Bran £2 10s per ton.

Fat Sheep. — To-day's yarding was unusually large, 3169 being penned. The bulk of these were ewes with a fair proportion of wethers suitable for export. The demand for the latter was very keen, and prices obtained were quite equal to late ruling values. The sale for ewes was rather uneven, but on the whole prices were Is to Is 6d a head below last week's rates. Pigs. — 108 were penned. For all sorts there was a good demand, and a most satisfactory sale resulted. Suckers sold at 13a to 16s 6d, slips 18s to 225, porkers 25s to 42a, baconers 45s to 70s. Donald Reid and Co. yarded 42, and sold: For Mr T. Townlev (Caversham), 10 at 23s to 21s; Mr Wm. Shand (Keith Hall), 15 at 12s 6d to 12s ; Mr M. Hughes (Wingatui), 9 at 16s 6d; Mr T. Pioperty. — Stronach Bros, and Morris report selling by auction, at Waikouaiti, on Thursday, last, the leasehold of the Hawksbury municipal endowment for 14 years at a satisfactory price.

Country Sales. — The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report having held their usual fortnightly sale at Balclutha \on Friday last, 2nd inst., when they offered about 1300 mixed sheep. Bidding was very spirited for classes of good lines, the demand being very keen. They sold crossbred wethera to 15s 6d, halfbred do to 14s dd, 4 and 6-tooth ewes to 133 9d, full-mouth do to 103 2d, and lambs to 11s 7d. The demand holds good for all good lines of sheep, whether wethers, ewes, or lambs. The only trouble being that they are not coming forward freely enough, the demand being far ahead of the supply. Stronach Bros, and Morris report holding their usuai monthly sale at Waikouaiti on Thursday, Ist inst., when a large gathering of buyers from that district, Palmerston, "Waitati, and Dunedin competed eagerly for all sorts of cattle. Well-grown steers for turnip feeding were very saleable, and a marked improvement in the value of these was apparent, whilß cowb and heifers, close to profit, were also readily disposed of at a- rise on prices lately ruling. All the sheep offered sold readily. Ewes (in lamb), lambs, and wethers brought good prices. We sold sheep : For Messrs Jno. Duncan (Corner Bush), Geo. Fry (Waikouaiti) at good prices, and cattle for Messrs Wm. Maxwell, R. A. S. Cimtrell, B. Fell, G. E. White, J. A. Townsend, P. Toomey, J. Bowling, Thos. Allcock, Jno. Hallum, A. S. Orbell. and others at current prices. Dalgoty 11 and Company (Limited) report having held their fortnightly sale at Balclutha on Friday, the 2nd inst. There was a small -yarding of both sheep and rattle, all of which changed hands at very good nrices. They yaifled and sold 828 sheep at the following range of prices: — Fat and store iambs (mixed) 11s 6d to 12s, forward wethera 15s Id to 14s 6d, fat ewes 10s 8d to 11s 6d. The same firm also repdrt having hold their monthly sa.le at- Palmerßton, on Monday, the sth insJS., when there was a full yarding of both sheep and cattle. There wits a considerable gathering of buyers from a distance, and farmers from the surrounding districts, and as the closs of stock offered was of a good class every description sold well. They yarded sheep 1 and 70 head of cattle, which sold at following range of values: — Crossbred wethers 12s to 13s 6d, six and eight-tooth ewes 12s 2d, lambs ]0s 3d, forward three-year-old steers £4 15b to £5 83, heifers £3 10s to £4 103, dairy cows £3 10s to £4 15s.

IliJes. — The inquiry ia still good and all classes of hides find an outlet at satisfactory prices. Quotations : Prime heavy, 3Jd to -id per 1b : medium to good, 3d to 3Ad per 1b; light, 2VI to 2Jd wer-lb; inferior, 9d to 2id.

Tallow. — The market remains steady, and both rendered and rough fat meet ready salcat for — Prime rendered, 14s 6d to 15a 6d per cwt; medium, 12s 6d to 13s 6d per cwt ; inferior, 11s to 12s per cwt ; rough fat, 8s 6d to 11s per cwt. Grain. — AVheat: Since last report the market has__been .fairly steady and there is therefore little or no change to report. Choice samples of velvet continue to be in most request with millers, but all classes of wheat in prime milling condition are saleable at late quotations. Medium quality is not sought after and is difficult to quit at much advance on fowl feed rjrices. Whole fowl wheat, in good condition, is in fair demand at late rates, but medium and soft Bamples are offering more" freely and are a- shade easier in value. Oats. — A large proportion of the week's arrivals have come forward for storage. Any lots of bright 3ood fend, suitable for shipment, have met fair sale at quotations. Indeed, shinnerc have experiencpfl some difficujty in fulfilling requirements. Despite this fact, however, prices show little sign of improvement. There is fair inquiry for piime milling sorts and the same may bo said of clean long Tartarian!? and Duns fife for seed. Quotations : Seed lines.
