CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.
The report of the outgoing committee for the year ending 30th April last shows that ' " the expenditure exceeded the receipts by £1093 15a 4d, due to £1384- 19b lid being spent on permanent improvements and on plant account. Under ordinary circumstances the revenue wjuld have been sufficiently elastic to have met this expenditure out of current receipts, but as .members will remember it rained in torrents on the last day of the November meeting, with the result that the receipts were fully £1000 less than might fairly have been expected, judging from the corresponding day in 1897. Notwithstanding this loss, the year's receipts were practically equal to those of the previous season, so that, had the weather 'been fine throughout, we should i doubtless have had a record year."
